In 1967 Les Weller set up a special steel wheel manufacturing business - Weller Wheels Ltd - and the business steadily developed until Les sold the company in 1990 to the Austrian Group, BBV.
In 1995 the BBV Group decided to sell its three manufacturing companies (Weller Wheels Ltd being one of them) and December 1995 the German Mefro Group took over Weller Wheels Ltd. It soon became clear that the reason Mefro took over Weller Wheels Ltd was to prevent it from being purchased by a competitor.
In September 1998, Mefro closed Weller Wheels Ltd and transferred a small part of the UK non-automotive production to its large wheel production plant in Ronneburg, Germany.
Since its day of starting in 1967 and its closure in 1998, Les is confident that Weller Wheels Ltd was the only special steel wheel manufacturer in Europe. Les is aware that since the closure of Weller Wheels Ltd in 1998, apart from a company named Starco GB Ltd who has set up to produce agricultural and industrial wheels, no supplier has filled the vacuum left by the departure of Weller Wheels Ltd.
Armed with the full knowledge of this situation, Les has been seeking a manufacturing company who has a strong interest in diversifying into other product manufacturing area's and after discussion with Purdie Metal Spinning Limited, a great deal of synergy has been discovered.
Now is the start of a new era, the association between Les and Purdie Metal Spinning will bring more choice and responsiveness than has been seen before.
